At the invitation of Afghan Foreign Minister Rasoul and German Foreign Minister Westerwelle, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi will attend the Bonn Conference on Afghanistan in Germany and co-host with Foreign Minister Westerwelle the 2nd round of China-Germany Foreign Ministerial Strategic Dialogue in Berlin from December 4 to 7.
The 12th China-Japan Strategic Dialogue is to be held in Beijing on December 2. Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Zhijun and Japanese Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Kenichiro Sasae will lead their respective delegations to the meeting and exchange views on China-Japan relations as well as international and regional issues of common interest.
Q: The DPRK said that it is progressing apace with the construction of a light water reactor and the production of low-enriched uranium. But the ROK and the US demanded the DPRK abandon its uranium enrichment programme as a precondition for restarting the Six-Party Talks. How does China comment?
A: We have noted relevant report. Under the current circumstances, we hope all parties concerned will make joint efforts to create conditions for the early resumption of the Six-Party Talks and address their concerns in the framework of the Talks.
Q: Australian Foreign Minister recently expressed support for the Australia-US-India trilateral security treaty. How does China comment? Some Iranian people stormed the British Embassy in Iran yesterday, and Britain has withdrawn its diplomatic staff in Iran. What is China's attitude on it?
A: On your first question, we hope relevant countries in this region can contribute more to regional peace, stability and development.
On your second question, China always maintains that the safety and dignity of diplomatic personnel and institutions should be ensured and upheld. The action against diplomatic institutions is not in line with international law and norms governing international relations. We hope it can be properly handled.
Q: US Secretary of State Clinton is to visit Myanmar soon. Will the enhanced contact between the US and Myanmar affect China's influence in this region?
A: We are willing to see Myanmar strengthening contact and improving relations with western countries on the basis of mutual respect so as to promote its stability and development.
