On 15 March, Edinburgh Airport announced to the press the launch of direct flights between Edinburgh and Beijing in June, attended by Mr. Pan Xinchun, Chinese Consul General in Edinburgh, Mr. Keith Brown, Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Job and Fair Work and Sir John Elvidge, Chairman of Edinburgh Airport Board.
Consul General Pan congratulated the airport on the launch of direct flights and extended thanks to the relevant organizations and people in all walks of life from both Chinese and Scottish sides for their efforts in making this come true. He said the direct flight will not only facilitate bilateral exchanges, but also bring benefits to the cooperation between China and Scotland in fields of trade and investment, education, culture and tourism, etc., contributing to the China-UK "Golden Era" 2.0.
Cabinet Secretary Keith Brown described the establishment of the direct flight as a key priority for route development, saying this new air link between Scotland and China is excellent news, helping to strengthen strong relations between the two sides.
Gordon Dewar, chief executive of Edinburgh Airport said this is incredibly exciting news for the airport, Edinburgh and Scotland and believed it will provide a good platform for people-to-people exchanges and mutual benefits to both sides.
