On 18 Oct., “UK-China Air Routes Conference - Scotland” hosted by HNA-affiliated Hainan Airlines, Beijing Capital Airlines and Tianjin Airlines was convened in Edinburgh. Mr. Pan Xinchun, Chinese Consul General in Edinburgh, Mr. Zhang Yang, Representative of Hainan Airlines UK Branch, Mr. Zhang Qing, Representative of CNTO London, Councillor Donald Wilson, Convener of Culture and Communities of Edinburgh City Council, as well as over 100 representatives from Visit Scotland, “China Ready” of Edinburgh Tourism Action Group, Travel Agencies and Chinese communities attended the event.
In his keynote speech, Consul General Pan briefed on the current trade and economic cooperation, cultural and people-to-people exchange between China and Scotland, and acclaimed the unremitting efforts by the Scottish side to attract Chinese tourists. He said, “with its long history and rich culture, China is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. The launch of the direct air route between Beijing and Edinburgh has brought China and Scotland ever closer, which made China now at your doorstep, and Far East not far any more. More Scottish people are welcome to China to experience the Chinese culture and explore more opportunities for cooperation.”
Councillor Wilson and Ms. Hazel Sellar-Johnston of Visit Scotland spoke highly of the tangible benefits of tourist cooperation between Scotland and China, and reaffirmed that Scotland would target the Chinese market as its priority, upgrading its service in the tourism sector to better meet the need of Chinese visitors. Representatives from CNTO London and Hainan Airlines also made presentations on China’s tourist resources, favorable visa policies for tourists and the HNA air routes network between China and the UK.
