Consul General Pan Xinchun Visits Aberdeen

On November 8th , Mr. Pan Xinchun, Chinese Consul General in Edinburgh, visited Aberdeen the “Oil Capital of Europe”, meeting with Lord Provost Barney Crockett and attending the 5th anniversary event at Confucius Institute in the University of Aberdeen.

Lord Provost warmly welcomed Consul General’s second visit to Aberdeen, briefing him about the latest development of the city. He expressed that Aberdeen attached great importance to its relations with China and was ready to build links with Chinese oil cities including Daqing, Karamay and Dongying as well as continuing to expand collaborations on education, investment and people-to-people exchanges. Consul General appreciated Lord Provost’s cordial hospitality, speaking highly of the cooperation between China and Aberdeen. He introduced China’s development achievements and suggested that both sides should seize the opportunity given by strong China-UK and China-Scotland ties to make a new progress in China-Aberdeen relations.

In his speech at the reception celebrating the 5th anniversary of the Confucius Institute at the University of Aberdeen, Principal and Vice-Chancellor George Boyne shared the engagement between the University and its Chinese partners, complimenting the faculty of CI on their excellent performances and saying that the University would relish the opportunity to engage with its Chinese counterparts to achieve new results. Consul General Pan congratulated the remarkable achievements made by the CI since its inception, encouraging teachers and volunteers to carry on writing a new chapter in promoting Chinese language and culture, enhancing friendship and collaborations between China and Scotland.
