2019/01/29

On January 24, Chinese Consulate General in Edinburgh held a reception for business representatives from China and Scotland under the theme of “Creating a Better Future for Sino-Scottish Trade and Investment”. Consul General Pan Xinchun, CEO of CBBC Matthew Rous, Director of Trade and Investment of SDI Neil Francis and around 50 representatives from industrial and commercial sectors attended the event.

In his speech, Consul General Pan reviewed the remarkable achievements China has made in the past 40 years of reform and opening-up, speaking highly of the friendship and fruitful collaborations between China and Scotland which sees the two-way trade grow steadily, with China now a top five source of inward investment to Scotland and one of its major trading partner. He introduced the first ever China International Import Expo (CIIE) held in Shanghai, which is a new major measure China took to expand opening-up and will promote economic globalization, trade and investment liberalization and bring new opportunities for collaborations between China and Scotland. He encouraged Scottish businesses to seize these new opportunities by attending CIIE.

Rous and Francis said that the Chinese economy has a bright prospect which will bring enormous market opportunities. While the bilateral trade and investment retain a good momentum, CBBC and SDI will continue to play a positive role in enhancing economic ties.

Over 30 delegates from both sides shared their success and business experience and expressed confidence in the future of Sino-Scottish economic and trade cooperation.
