Actress Yong Mei Appointed As Edinburgh Tourism Ambassador

On 4th June, Chinese Consul General Pan Xinchun attended the ceremony to celebrate Chinese Actress Yong Mei's appointment as Edinburgh's first Chinese Ambassador of Tourism. Ms Yong Mei was awarded the title by Lord Provost Frank Ross.

Consul General Pan congratulated the new winner of Silver Bear on her accreditation, which will make a fresh contribution to the friendship and cooperation between China and Edinburgh. He appreciated the effort made by Lord Provost and friends from all walks of life in ushering in a "Golden Age" in China-Edinburgh relations. He encouraged both sides to build upon the success to achieve more "golden fruits" in tourism, trade, culture and education engagement, etc.

Lord Provost spoke highly of the friendly Edinburgh-China relations and the fruitful cooperation with Shenzhen, Xi'an and Fuzhou City. He said that collaborations on tourism would deepen people-to-people exchanges and promote mutual understanding. He expected more Scottish tourists to visit China as Edinburgh is "China Welcome" .

In 2019, Ms Yong Mei won the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival for her performance in the film So Long, My Son.
