Consul General Pan Xinchun Attends Second China Ready Conference

On 11th June 2019, Chinese Consul General Pan Xinchun addressed the second China Ready Conference held by Edinburgh Tourism Action Group (ETAG).

Consul General Pan pointed out that marked progress had been achieved in Sino-Scottish ties, yielding fruitful results in trade and investment, education and technology, tourism and culture collaborations guided by high-level exchanges. He noted that today also marks the first anniversary of the the direct air route between Beijing and Edinburgh. 2018 saw China achieve stable growth in the high-quality economic development, contributing significantly to world economic growth and continuing to be the stabilizer and propeller of the world economy. In 2018, China successfully held the first China International Import Expo to open up wider. The joint undertaking of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) entered a new phase as China is committed to win-win cooperation. China will work together with Scotland to strengthen and deepen our relations so as to deliver more “golden furits”

Rob Lang, Chair of Edinburgh China Ready, said that China brings enormous and growing market opportunities to Scotland’s tourism sector. The estimated number of Chinese people visiting Scotland this year will exceed 200,000, almost doubling over a five-year period. Edinburgh now becomes No.1 long haul destination for Chinese tourists. ETAG will tap deeper into cooperation with China through programmes such as Edinburgh Chinese New Year Fesrival to facilitate people-to-people exchanges.
