Edinburgh Chinese New Year Festival 2020 Rolls Out
On 8 January, Chinese Consul General Ma Qiang joined the publicity photocall and media interviews for 2020 Edinburgh Chinese New Year Festival. He gave interviews to BBC Radio 4, STV and Edinburgh Reporter. Rob Lang, President of Edinburgh China Ready Initiative as well as representatives from Edinburgh Tourism Action Group attended the event.
Consul General said that Chinese New Year (CNY) is the most important traditional holiday of the Chinese people. It is a symbol of good fortune, harmony and reunion. It embodies best wishes for a beautiful life. 2020 is Year of the Rat. In Chinese culture rats are seen as a sign of wisdom and wealth.
Mr. Ma said that this is the second official Edinburgh CNY Celebration co-hosted by the Chinese Consulate General and City of Edinburgh Council, seeing an increasing effort to make the most of the wonderful opportunity to celebrate Chinese and Scottish culture with a bigger and diversified programme. In particular, Guizhou Song and Dance Troupe will bring a great variety of programmes that show their unique folk customs and styles to 2020 Edinburgh Official CNY Concert on 21 Jan at the Usher Hall.
CG Ma marked the alignment of CNY and Burns Night once in 76 years. He hopes that both Chinese and Scottish peoples enjoy the moment, share best wishes for future and establish closer bond through the huge cultural celebration. He conveyed his sincere wishes to all.
