Chinese Consulate General Holds Happy Chinese New Year Reception and Gala
On 21 Jan 2020, Consul General Ma Qiang and wife hosted well-attended Happy Chinese New Year Reception and Gala as people across Scotland ushered in the Year of Rat. Artists from Guizhou Song and Dance Theatre presented audience including representatives from the Scottish Government, Parliament, City Councils and the Chinese Community with a gala of songs, dances, folk music and acrobatics.
In his speech, Consul General Ma sent his best festive greetings to all before reviewing the remarkable achievements China has made in 2019 and looking ahead to next year with great expectations of as well as confidence in both China's development and her relations with Scotland. Consul General in particular highlighted the coincidence of the Chinese New Year and Burns Night in 2020, which brought a fantastic opportunity for both peoples to celebrate.
Minister Ben Macpherson, Deputy Presiding Officer Linda Fabiani and Lord Provost Frank Ross sent regards of Spring Festival. They shared the fruitful and growing links between Scotland and China from their perspectives.
On that night, the fully-packed Usher Hall was bathed in a festive atmosphere, with gongs and drums beating, flags fluttering and dragons and lions dancing at the front square. Attendees had a good night enjoying a mixture of taste of Guizhou and Scotland.
