Tourist Visa
(L-Visa)
Tourist visas are generally issued to applicants who intend to visit China for sightseeing, visiting family or friends.
Requirements:
1. One completely filled out Visa Application Form for the P.R. China..
2. One recently taken 2X2 in. photo showing entire face and without a hat on. Please paste or stick the photo on the application form.
3. Original passport with at least 2 blank visa pages and valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of application.
4. An approval notice from China Tibet Tourism Bureau is required if you intend to travel to the Tibet Autonomous Region (Telephone number for the Tourism Bureau: 86-891-6834313, fax number: 86-891-6834632).
5. An applicant born in China who is applying for a Chinese visa with his or her new foreign passport is required to submit his or her Chinese passport or last foreign passport.
6. A child of Chinese descent and born in foreign country who applies for a Chinese visa for the first time is required to submit his or her Birth Certificate and foreign passport or foreign permanent resident permit of one of his or her parents.
7. The following applicants may apply for multi-entry tourist visas for 12 months:
1) Applicant born in China with the record of visits to China for at least 2 times in the past year: record of visits rquired.
2) Applicant who owns a property in China: copy of certificate of property required.
3) Applicant born in China and needs to visit China frequently for health care: certificate of a doctor required.
4) Applicant whose spouse, children or parents reside in China: copy of certificate of marriage or kindred required.
5) Applicant with a record of multi-entry tourist visas: record of multi-entry tourist visas required.
6) Other applicants who were born in China and intend to visit China frequently: necessary supporting document required.
Reminder:
No visa application can be done through mail, email, internet, or any express delivery service. Visa application should be submitted and picked up by the applicant or someone else entrusted.

Business Visa
(F-visa)
Business visas are generally issued to applicants who intend to visit China on business invited by Chinese partner and trainees to stay in China for less than 6 months.
Requirements:
1. One completely filled out Visa Application Form for the P.R. China..
2. One recently taken 2X2 in. photo showing entire face and without a hat on. Please affix the photo to the application form.
3. Original passport with at least 2 blank visa pages and valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of application.
4. For single-entry or two-entry business visa, an invitation from the relevant Chinese governmental departments, relevant companies, business entities or non-profit governmental organizations is required.
5. The following applicants may apply a multiple-entry F-visa valid for 6 months or 12 months, and the relevant supporting documents should also be submitted:
1) Applicant who intends to visit China frequently on business purposes: a letter from his or her company or the host company in China required proving that the applicant will visit China frequently within one year.
2) Applicant who has had a multi-entry visa: multi-entry visa record required.
6. The following applicants may apply a multiple-entry F-visa valid in 24 months, and the relevant supporting documents should also be submitted:
1) Applicant who has had the record of visits to China at least 2 times with business visa (F visa) in the past year and has a formal letter from his or her company to prove that he or she will visit China frequently on business purposes: records and copies of business visas and entry stamps, and the formal letter from the company required.
2) Applicant who invests in China: copy of the business registration or relevant business permit with the applicant's name required.
3) Applicant who has the record of multi-entry business visa: copy of the visa required.
Please be noticed that:
(1) Original passport should be valid at least 24 months beyond the date of application.
(2) Multiple-entry F-visas valid in 24 months can only be applied for in the nationality country of the applicants. We only issue Multiple-entry F-visas valid in 24 months for British citizens.
7. An applicant born in China who is applying for a Chinese visa with his or her new foreign passport is required to submit his or her Chinese passport or last foreign passport.
8. A child of Chinese descent and born in a foreign country who applies for a Chinese visa for the first time is required to submit his or her Birth Certificate and foreign passport or foreign permanent resident permit of one of his or her parents.

Student Visa
(X-visa)
Student visas are generally issued to applicants who intend to study in China for more than 6 months.
Requirements:
1. One completely filled out Visa Application Form for the P.R. China .Right click to save
2. One recently taken 2X2 in. photo showing entire face and without a hat on. Please affix the photo to the application form.
3. Original passport with at least 2 blank visa pages and valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of application.
4. A visa application form for international students (JW-202) issued by the Ministry of Education of China, and notification of admission from the receiving school with the seal of the said ministry are required.
5. A Physical Examination Record for Foreigner (Q-2) filled out and signed by a doctor.
6. An applicant born in China who is applying for a Chinese visa with his or her new foreign passport is required to submit his or her Chinese passport or last foreign passport.
7. A child of Chinese descent and born in a foreign country who applies for a Chinese visa for the first time is required to submit his or her Birth Certificate and foreign passport or foreign permanent resident permit of one of his or her parents.
Reminders:
1. No visa application can be done through mail, email, internet, or any express delivery service such as UPS, FedEx, etc. Visa application should be submitted and picked up by the applicant or someone else entrusted.
2. Aliens holding X-visas shall, within 30 days of entry into China, obtain aliens' residence permission from the Public Security Bureau at the place of their residence. Otherwise, aliens may be fined, detained or even ordered to leave the country within a specific time period.
(Z-visa)
Employment Visas are generally issued to applicants who are employed to work in China for more than 6 months and who intend to do commercial performance in China.
Requirements:
1. One completely filled out Visa Application Form for the P.R. China ..
2. One recently taken 2X2 in. photo showing entire face and without a hat on. Please affix the photo to the application form.
3. Original passport with at least 2 blank visa pages and valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of application.
4. An invitation letter or telegram from the relevant department of the Chinese Government or Government-authorized company, together with an employment certificate issued by the relevant department, or a certificate of foreign expert, or the relevant permit of employment.
5. A Physical Examination Record for Foreigner (Q-2) filled out and signed by a doctor.
6. The spouse or children of the Z-Visa applicant who are following the applicant to stay in China are required to submit an original and copy of Marriage Certificate or Birth Certificate to prove their relationship.
7. An applicant born in China who is applying for a Chinese visa with his or her new foreign passport is required to submit his or her Chinese passport or last foreign passport.
8. A child of Chinese descent and born in a foreign country who applies for a Chinese visa for the first time is required to submit his or her Birth Certificate and foreign passport or foreign permanent resident permit of one of his or her parents.

2. Z-visa is generally valid for 3 month. Applicants should apply for a residence permit from a local county level Public Security Bureau within 30 days after entering China.
1. Pickup
Applicant will be given a pickup form. Applicant or someone else entrusted can pickup the visa by submitting the pickup form. Please keep the pickup form in a safe place.
Chinese visas can generally be picked up on the fourth working day from the submitting date. For example, if you submitted on Friday, you may pick up your visa next Thursday (if not a holiday).
We have no same day service. If you need the next day express service(for visa only), please tick "express" on the application form.

3. Payments:
We accept cash, money order, company check, Other payments are not accepted. Money order or company check should be made payable to "Chinese Consulate General in Edinburgh".
Please pay when you pickup. Do not pay when submitting applications.
Applicants have the responsiblity to check the contents of the visas when they pick up. The Chinese Consulate are not responsible for any errors found afterward.

Visas or Entry Permit for Hong Kong or Macao SAR
1. U.K. citizens visiting Hong Kong SAR for a short tour, or business visit can stay in Hong Kong for 90 days without applying for visas.
The following U.K. citizens visiting Hong Kong are required to apply for visas in advance:
(1) U.K. citizens intending to stay in Hong Kong longer than 90 days;
(2) U.K. citizens intending to enter Hong Kong for employment, investment, education, training or residence.
2. U.K. citizens can visit the Macao SAR without applying for visas.

Guidance forVisa Agents
1. Passport
Please make sure passport is valid for more than 6 months beyond the date of application and have at least 2 blank visa pages. Please make a special note if the applicant's name or birth date has been changed.
2. Application form
Please fill out or print the Visa Application Form for the P.R. China completely, legibly and truthfully. Do not leave any item blank. Write N/A if there is nothing to declare.
1) Name: Applicant born in China (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) must fill in their Chinese names.
2) Occupation: Accurate occupation is needed. Fill in none for unemployed.
3) Purpose of Journey: Fill out truthfully and legibly.
4) Place to visit: List all the provinces, cities or counties intending to visit.
5) Number of Entries or Duration: Fill in the items according to the demands of the applicant. Final decision will be made by Consuls.
6) Photo: One passport picture is needed.
7) Signature: The application form must be signed by the applicant himself, except for the children.
8) Company identifier: Please stamp or label the name and telephone number of your company on the form for contacts.
3. Submitting Applications
1) Please prepare all application materials and have them ready. Applications may be rejected if they do not meet requirements or you have submit illusive documents.
2) Please submit applications separately according to pickup dates, numbers of entries and categories of visas.
3) Foreign passports, application forms and relevant application materials will be kept here. Please be noticed that original documents such as birth certificates, Chinese passports (which will be cancelled) will be returned immediately.
4 Please submit any special application separately and explain to consuls in detail.
5) Those who submit applications should bear the responsibility for checking the pick-up forms. Any questions should be addressed with consuls immediately.
4. Picking up
1) We accept cash, money order or company check only. Please write down your business phone number on the back of company checks. Visa paid in dud check will be cancelled and applications of the relevant company will be rejected in the future.
2) Those who pick up visas have the responsibility to check the visas in detail. Please report to consuls immediately with any questions.
