Recently a Scottish friend wrote to our Consulate General asking for our views on allegations of the so-called organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners in China. The Consulate General hereby would like to make the following two points:

1. With respect to human organ transplants, China has consistently abided by the relevant guiding principles of the World Health Organisation endorsed in 1991, prohibiting the sale of human organs and stipulating that donors' written consent must be obtained beforehand and donors are entitled to refuse the donation at last minute. China has issued a regulation on human organ transplants, explicitly banning the sale of organs and introducing a set of medical standards for organ transplants in an effort to guarantee medical safety and the health of patients. The regulation requires any medical institution which is qualified for practising human organ transplant to register with Health Departments at the provincial level. Unregistered medical institutions are forbidden to practise human organ transplant. If the government finds any registered institution violating the regulation, it will cancel the registration and punish the people responsible.

2. Allegations of the so-called organ harvesting from Falun Gong cult members are sheer lies told by the cult with wicked intentions.

Since early March this year, the Falun Gong organisation based in the United States made up a "Sujiatun Concentration Camp" story, claiming that more than 6,000 Falun Gong practitioners were imprisoned at the so-called "Sujiatun Concentration Camp" in Liaoning Province, and many of them were cremated after their organs were harvested. Falun Gong followers later changed their story to say that the "concentration camp" was established in a small hospital, the Sujiatun Hospital on Thrombus Diseases.

To make its story more horrifying, the Falun Gong organisation maliciously claimed that the Chinese government harvested the organs from the bodies of Falun Gong practitioners executed with death penalty and made them a major source of human organs for transplantation.

With the "Sujiatun Concentration Camp" affair as a starter, the cult organisation kept on exaggerating its rumors and made use of all dirty means to spread their lies. They started to lobby government official of some countries, made "protest demonstrations" in some countries and conducted harassments in front of the Chinese diplomatic missions abroad.

After the rumors were spread out, many Chinese and foreign media went to Sujiatun to carry out onsite investigations. On March 24th, NHK from Japan, Phoenix TV and Takunpao Newspaper from Hong Kong went to have onsite interviews at the Hospital. They found that the hospital, with only 300 beds, did not have enough space for 6,000, neither did the "basement" or "cremator". The Phoenix TV reported that the secrete "concentration camp" described by Falun Gong did not exist at all.

On March 22nd, a diplomat from the American Consulate in Shenyang visited Sujiatun Hospital on Thrombus Diseases. After the tour, he said he found no proof of the existence of the so-called "concentration camp". Instead, he praised the environment and conditions of medical treatment in the hospital and promised to introduce the hospital to his friends at home. On April 14th, the American Consul-General in Shenyang and two diplomats from the American Embassy in
Beijing visited the hospital for three and a half hours. They visited the laboratory, surgery, canteen storeroom, garage, garbage house, boiler house, chimney, hospital archive as well as its surrounding residential areas. The Associated Press later reported that a spokeswoman from the American Embassy in Beijing said, "According to all the information we have been able to obtain thus far, the site is functioning only as a hospital." On the same day Mr. Sean McCormack, Spokesman of US Department of State, made an announcement as follows: "Officers and staff from our embassy in Beijing and consulate in Shenyang have visited the area and the specific site mentioned in these (Falun Gong) reports on two separate occasions. In these visits the officers were allowed to tour the entire facility and grounds and found no evidence that the site is being used for any function other than as a normal public hospital." The crematorium claimed by Falun Gong for body burning is the boiler room of the hospital.
       
The staff at the Sujiatun Hospital have been greatly outraged by the rumor. On March 31st, they issued a statement to refute the rumour on its website (www.thrombusres-cn.net) and said, "We will reserve our right to affix the legal responsibility for the evil behavior of the cult and its media."

Facts have shown that the so-called "Sujiatun Concentration Camp" is completely a made-up story. It is by no means the first whopper that the evil Falun Gong cult fabricated. It has been fabricating and spreading lies one after another ever since its inception with its wicked intentions.

Firstly, to cover up its evil nature and gruesome history of violating human rights and spoiling human lives by drawing people's attention to something else. Since its inception, the Falun Gong cult has caused more than 1,700 deaths and lots of breaking-up of families. Under its founder LI Hongzhi's spiritual control, a lot of Falun Gong followers committed suicide or died of refusing taking medication after becoming ill.

Secondly, to cheat sympathy out of innocent people. Most of its lies are related to human rights. Disguising themselves as victims, the Falun Gong followers tried to cheat the sympathy out of Western government officials and ordinary people for their survival and their continual existence in the Western countries.

Thirdly, to defame the Chinese government. The Falun Gong has become a political tool of certain international anti-China forces and elements.

This evil cult deserves no credit. No Chinese people believe its lies. We hope the British people can study and research this evil cult comprehensively, see through its intrigue and fabricated lies, and not to be misled by its conspiracies to harm the effort our two Governments are making to enhance understanding, friendship and cooperation between us.
